Wondering what those holes are in the different wood surfaces of your home? If you are noticing holes in fascia boards at the base of your roof line or any other area that is elevated, there is a good chance you are dealing with Carpenter Bee's. These Bee's are creating tunnels within the wood. Outside it may look like a small hole but in fact they are destroying the wood from the inside out. This is the same case for Carpenter Ants, they can be seen on ground or on elevated surfaces especially if there are tree limbs or bushes or any other type of vegetation that may be in contact with a structure. These pests love moist, soft, and unpainted areas.

Termites are drawn to damp areas also. One good thing to look for when looking for Termites is what is known as shelter tubes. They look like narrow strands of dirt or sand that may be running along foundation walls or floor joists. It is good to knock these tubes down look for wood damage and take the proper measures to consult a professional.

These insects can create thousands of dollars of damage to your home if not detected early. It is always good practice to keep your home sealed tightly and to keep wood freshly painted and try to prevent water from pooling around your foundation. It is good practice to keep approximately 6 inches of clearance from siding to grade. It is also good practice to try and obtain approximately 1 inch of drop each foot up to 6 feet when dealing with grade. It is good to try and discharge downspouts approximately 4 to 6 feet away from the home. The idea is to eliminate as much moisture as possible from pooling around the home.
